Wowser! On Monday, Ana Vadeanu & Sarah Arnold’s Sensibee at the Bethnal Green Nature Reserve in central London recorded four fascinating visitors all at the same time:
- Batman hoverfly (Myathropa florea)
- Seven-spotted ladybird (Coccinella septempunctata)
- Blowfly (Calliphoridae)
- And a small bee or wasp (Apoidea)

Making urban biodiversity visible
This is exactly the kind of insight that helps land managers and community groups evidence the biodiversity value of their spaces. Even a small patch of urban green can support a surprising range of species — and Sensibee makes it visible.
The automated identification and real-time monitoring means that community groups and land managers don’t need to spend hours in the field to understand what’s happening in their green spaces. The data speaks for itself, building a continuous picture of biodiversity throughout the seasons.
Bethnal Green Nature Reserve is a wonderful example of how urban green spaces, when managed thoughtfully, can become havens for wildlife right in the heart of the city.
Best wishes,
The Sensibee team 🐝
