The team behind Sensibee
We're passionate about pollinators.
Sensibee was born from a frustration that little is known about most pollinator populations, and that as a society we've been poor at caring for them.
Founder Prof. Yannick Wurm first fell in love with insects over 20 years ago. Originally trained as an engineer, he went on to become a world leader in the study of ant societies and pollinator health, using evolutionary approaches and molecular genomics tools — experiences that ultimately led to the creation of Sensibee.
Tools for counting and classifying insects had changed little since the 1800s, often requiring substantial labour, rare entomological expertise, and methods that can harm the very bugs we're trying to help.
Our focus is overcoming the technological and scaling hurdles needed to help businesses, farmers, councils, chemical companies, academics, and conservation organisations make more informed insect-related decisions that lead to better outcomes for nature and humanity.
We aim to provide a step-change in understanding pollinator health, distribution, abundance, and diversity.
